ABOUT ME

I am currently a PhD candidate exploring and analyzing the genomic correlates of migration and recovery in Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) in Dr. Rebekah Oomen’s lab at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. My interests have always lied with genomics and how the genome can reveal fascinating and novel information about different species. The goal of my PhD dissertation is to better understand the molecular changes associated with adaptation and migration in tuna populations, in light of fishery pressures and climate change, while providing genomic insights that can be utilized by conservation and management strategies. I look forward to collaborations with diverse groups of people whom are involved in the complex socioeconomic world of fisheries.

I received my Master’s Degree in Marine Biology from Northeastern University in December of 2023. The Three Seas Program is an intensive experiential program where studies are conducted in three unique locations: the rocky shores of New England, the tropical ecosystems of Bocas del Toro, Panama, and the temperate waters of Washington’s San Juan Archipelago. I completed my thesis in the SeaQL Lab at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University under the advisory of Dr. Francesco Ferretti where I studied the spatio-temporal trends of the bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus) in the Mediterranean Sea using opportunistic and historical data.

Outside of academia, I enjoy spending time scuba diving, painting/drawing, playing video games, traveling, and going on fun adventures with my husband.
